Yes. To do this, you just need to return to the place where you died. Next to the body, you will find all the items that you had in your inventory. However, enemies will remain in the same position as when you die. If you go back for your equipment with no gear, collecting all the items can be much more difficult.

I've been using it for about 6 years now. One thing you could do is go to the Search bar of your Start menu, type up your single player character name, and see if your computer can find it. I just tried it (I typed Palligator, the name of my Zealot), the the .d2s file showed up. See if that helps you find your characters.

If it's already installed and registered on the other computer, most Blizzard games (Diablo 2 included) seem to respond well to just being flat-out copied from one computer to another. Assuming the CD key is stored in a file (can't find anything in the registry on a quick look-through), it would solve that problem and save you some time
A bit late but I've since found the fix. Seems hero editor is looking for a registry value for "Save Path" but the new blizzard installer doesn't install this value. Fix instructions are: 1. Open Regedit as admin. 2. Browse to \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Blizzard Entertainment\Diablo II. 3.
